The other day, I spotted my former RLC Skyline GT-R on the Hot Wheels market. The guy who had bought it from me listed it for the same price. One year after the purchase, he sold it for the same amount.
He just wanted to get rid of it as fast as possible. He paid me $110 for it. But some eBay sellers have listed it for as much as $740. That's over the top, but I still counted seven listings for over $300 each. The Red Line Club exclusive models can always be a potential gold mine for resellers. That's why Mattel is facing so many bots whenever launching a new product.

The diecast manufacturer claims to have continuously ensured a smooth selling process. But with so many people lining up for a shot, most will end up empty-handed. In January, we saw two different products coming out from El Segundo. The Factory Box and the Super Treasure Hunt set sold out almost instantly. Will the same be valid for the upcoming collectible? American Motors Corporation faded away nearly four decades ago. But it lives on in the hearts of many enthusiasts, and Mattel often pays tribute to its legacy.

You'll find quite a few AMC models in the company's lineup. But you might have difficulty remembering when the last one was part of the Red Line Club. The new '71 AMC Javelin AMX is here to fix that. It might remind you of Jun Imai's casting that debuted in 2011, but it's not the same. That one featured three Premium variations and an Ultra Hots release.

But this time, we're looking at a brand-new casting. The man who designed it is Dwayne Vance: he created some of the early 2000s Fatbax, Hardnoze, and Blings castings. And the Javelin isn't his first RLC-exclusive model. He also created the Kawa-Bug-A Beetle, which can be as expensive as $500 on eBay today.

The '71 AMC Javelin AMX features an attractive Spectraflame Root Beer finish with green and yellow neon stripes. Once you look past the Grandma's Kitchen graphics, there are plenty of details to gawk at. The Real Riders 5-Hole Mag wheels are the main attraction, alongside the exposed engine. Mattel used tan on the interior, which works well with the exterior visuals. Then there's the FR33KN license plate.

I'm happy to see Mattel is making efforts to improve the RLC line by considerably enhancing the underbody design. The designer separated the axles from the chassis, removing any unwanted metal body as seen in other raised models. With this upgrade, the company had to cut down on expenses elsewhere. So we won't get an opening hood or doors. The product goes live on February 6, 2024, at 9 AM PT, for $25 before taxes. Remember to stay away from the scalpers on eBay. It's only worth the hassle if you don't care about your money.
