An insider source for AutoExpress said that Land Rover has had so much success with the Evoque that they’d be “daft not to do more with the brand.” Indeed, we have to agree with this statement, although we’re not so sure about the direction they’re taking.
According to the aforementioned publication, the next big thing for the Evoque will be a convertible model to be introduced with the refresh as early as 2014. The car has already been previewed by a concept earlier this year, one which has been well received. Everybody expects them to put it into production, but while the Range Rover Evoque brand is popular, the writing is on the wall when it comes to convertible crossovers. Rag-top 4x4 like the Jeep work just fine, but Nissan failed badly with the Murano CrossCabriolet.

With the facelift for the Evoque, Land Rover engineers will install a new 9-speed transmission into the car, which should improve the economy a bit.

Something we do agree with is a sportier version of the Evoque, which will reportedly be powered by a re-tuned 2.0-liter turbo with around 300 horsepower, not Jaguar’s new supercharged V6.

Following these two, a long wheelbase model will arrive within five years from now to bridge the gap between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport, but much smaller crossovers are also being looked at.
