The young man who filmed himself in the Australian outback, driving around in his car and running over emus while laughing hysterically, and who then posted the sickening footage to social media, has been identified.
According to an ex-girlfriend who refused to go on the record with her name, the man in the video is Jacob Macdonald, a 20-year-old man from Pinnaroo, South Australia. He is the son of a female police officer and a farm worker.

She confirms it in an interview with the Daily Mail Australia and says that the incident probably happened because he went “off the rails” when she broke up with him last July.

The sickening video was posted to Facebook by another man who had no connection with Macdonald, in an attempt to identify the culprit. It went viral immediately, with the RSPCA stepping in for the police, who claimed they had their hands tied because of jurisdiction issues. In other words, they couldn’t do anything until they learned where the video had been filmed.

As every media outlet in Australia (and not only) was talking about this, the scandal reached the small country town where Macdonald lives. The ex tells the publication that he reached out to her to beg her to not say anything, to keep his identity a secret. He also claimed he didn’t know why he’d done such an awful thing.

While the man’s identity has been made public, measures against him haven’t been taken yet. The RSPCA is still conducting its investigation, but it has vowed to do whatever it took to get the driver what he deserved for his idea of a “stunt.”

Of the mob of 13 or so emus he drives up on that dirt road, he seems to run over at least half a dozen, if not more. He even keeps count of how many he’s hit, but he stops at one point because he’s laughing so hard.

If he’s charged with the crime of killing native wildlife and he’s found guilty, Macdonald faces a maximum fine of $22,000 and 5 years in jail.
