Asking anyone on this planet if they like Oreos is a dumb thing to do. I mean, what's not to like about sandwich cookies that can be tasted in so many ways, come in so many flavors, and have been around for more than a century? And now that the guys making them are literally taking people to space, we like them even more.
You see, aside from Oreos themselves one the hottest topics on the planet is space exploration. So many people and organizations are in this business, and the plans for the future are so great that we all feel involved in it to some degree.

Technically speaking cookies and space exploration have nothing in common, but there was no way Oreo was about to miss out on the hype. So this week they've decided to show the world something called the Oreo Space Dunk.

That would be a limited edition of the world's favorite cookies with blue and pink stuffing with a marshmallowy flavor. These things are not your usual Oreos, but they come with "popping candies that create a supernova-like bursting sensation."

A real treat for the taste buds, for sure, but what's really in it for us? How about a trip to space?

That's right, getting one of these Oreo Space Dunks will give you a shot at going to space, or more specifically to the edge of space, on board the Spaceship Neptune. That's right, that pressurized sphere that will travel to heights of 100,000 feet (30 km) strapped to a huge balloon.

The sweepstakes experience is called Lift Off with OREO and at the time of writing full details on it are scarce. We do know people should get ready for a six-hour trip to dazzling heights, from where they can admire the greatness of planet Earth.

The books for a shot at going to space for free opened on January 23, and it's unclear for how long they will stay so. It also seems the Space Perspective prize is only meant for American customers, as Canadian ones will get a weightless experience instead, on board a Zero-G flight.

So, a pack of Oreo Space Dunk is selling in the U.S. for $4.50. That may seem like a lot for a pack of cookies, but it certainly is a bargain to pay for a trip to the edge of space.

The Space Perspective way of doing things is unlike any other currently being tried by space companies. It doesn't require launch pads, fuel, rockets, and not even basic astronaut training for the people going up.

That's because we're essentially talking about a balloon that carries with it an enclosed capsule capable of holding nine people, the pilot included.

It's unclear at this point when Space Perspective will actually send people to space (probably no sooner than 2025), but once it does it will charge $125,000 per ticket.
