Don't get me wrong; the “Eleven” isn’t just about aesthetics. On the contrary, the 904cc L-twin received an array of top-shelf components that’ll have it behave like a marvel.
When it comes down to flawlessly crafted one-off bikes, Atom Bomb Custom Motorcycles’ Clay Rathburn isn’t messing around. For a clear demonstration of this fellow’s incredible abilities, we’ll be taking a minute to examine his work on a Ducati 900SS. The project in question was dubbed the “Eleven,” and its author completed the customization process back in 2014.

Within its gorgeous steel trellis frame, the donor bike houses a belt-driven SOHC L-twin fiend that prides itself with two desmodromic valves per cylinder and a healthy displacement of 904cc. This monstrous piece of air-cooled machinery will be more than happy to deliver as much as 80 hp at around 7,500 rpm. On the other hand, the mill is fully capable of producing up to 57 pound-feet (77 Nm) of brutal twist at 6,500 rpm.

A six-speed transmission is tasked with feeding the engine’s fierce oomph to the rear 17-inch wheel by means of a chain final drive. Ultimately, this whole arrangement leads to a generous top speed of 143 mph (230 kph), while the SuperSport’s quarter-mile time is rated at no more than 11.4 seconds. Needless to say, this thing is no damn toy!

Rathburn began the transformation by treating the bike’s front end to a selection of top-grade components transplanted from other two-wheeled beasts. Those included a Suzuki GSX-R's Showa forks and Brembo brakes, as well as an Aprilia RSV’s front hoop and a fresh steering damper from Ohlins’ catalogue. At the rear, you will find a Ducati 999’s monoshock, double-sided swingarm, and Y-spoked wheel.

Next, the moto master went about replacing the stock trellis frame with a bespoke counterpart manufactured in-house. As soon as work on the frame was concluded, Clay proceeded to bless the L-twin colossus with a thorough overhaul, equipping high-compression pistons, a state-of-the-art ignition setup, and a lightweight flywheel for good measure. To round out the powertrain upgrades, he installed a pair of FCR carburetors and a custom stainless-steel exhaust.

Lastly, Bologna’s SuperSport received an assortment of alloy bodywork units that do a wonderful job at looking the part. These include a sexy fuel tank, a slim seat pan, and an angular tail section topped with a 1098’s taillight item. The finishing touch comes in the form of neat decals found on the bike’s new gas tank.

All things considered, Atom Bomb’s “Eleven” isn’t just about visual goodness, it is also a true superstar in terms of performance!
