We have seen our fair share of crazy engineering achievements involving Ford’s ubiquitous F-Series of pickup trucks. With fourteen generations of wonders and countless versions, the F-Series certainly has many custom projects going for it.
But how about a 1966 F-250 with a lot of patina getting not only the Predator engine from a 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 but also its dual-clutch Tremec auto transmission along with all of its smart features?

That sounded enticing enough for Solomon Lunger, the laid-back, bearded host of the Ford Era channel on YouTube, to feature the idea on the latest episode of the “What The Truckseries. Actually, he specifies “this one is going to be a little different” because it could also be called a “What The Truck – What The Car” feature. That's because he's showcasing a project that’s still very much in an embryonic state.

Still, it was definitely worth checking out as we’re faced with someone who decided that his patina-infused 1966 F-250 Crew Cab (dubbed a “survivor” for obvious reasons) should morph into something else with ample help from a brand-new 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.

We have seen instances of classic F-Series trucks taking on a modern performance mantra with Shelby's assistance, but this time around, we’re not talking about an older powerplant. Instead, we’re dealing with a huge technical challenge as the owner emphasizes that he wants not only the clean engine swap but also to port the dual-clutch Tremec seven-speed automatic transmission complete with all of its smart modes.

According to the shared information (we've also embedded some additional explanations from the owner's social media account), this unassuming 1966 F-250 (which had just one previous owner and was discovered somewhere in Oregon) will turn into a proper sleeper. The body of the truck will be left intact, and all the modern amenities will be hidden from sight.

You can actually check out the owner's vision of the end result in the gallery above, as he has already revealed a rendering of the finished custom project. As far as we can tell, the F-250 will be keeping its light-blue shade and clean looks even as it will potentially turn into a “taller and supercharged” adventurer.
