Few other vehicles are as recognizable and well-met as Oscar Mayer's Wienermobile, one of the few surviving promotional vehicles in the U.S. and an icon in its own right. Drew Barrymore just became the best-dressed person ever to hitch a ride in it.
The Wienermobile has a long and colorful history that goes all the way back to the 1930s when the first vehicle was introduced in Chicago. At the time, promotional vehicles and word-of-mouth were advertising standards, but today, there's no need for either because social media is more efficient and convenient.

With all this, the Wienermobile doesn't just hang around, but it's even thriving. It remains a popular sight on any street across the States, bringing laughter and hot dogs to everyday people. There are currently six such vehicles traveling across the country non-stop, spreading the joy – and the love for hot dogs.

That's not an exaggeration, either. Even Hollywood A-listers like Drew Barrymore love the Wienermobile, and her megawatt smile as she climbed out of it is proof. The actress, who has since made a career change into one of the most popular daytime talk shows in the U.S., hitched a ride on the iconic vehicle on her birthday.

Reports online claim that in doing so, she fulfilled a childhood dream, which might be true considering how happy she seemed when she stepped on the red carpet outside the studio in New York. Video of her big entrance is available at the bottom of the page.

In reality, though, this could be a paid partnership between the network and Oscar Mayer, which could mean footage will be used on an upcoming episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, perhaps even the birthday special.

Either way, Drew was definitely the best-dressed person to set foot on the Wienermobile, which probably means there was no sampling of hot dog goodness allowed for fear of ruining that spectacular dress. But she got a Wiener Whistle, and she can be heard saying that she plans to cherish it for life. Celebrities, they're just like us, after all!

The Wienermobile of today is not the same vehicle as the one that debuted in 1936, obviously. It was redesigned in 2004 so that it delivers better performance and better features for interacting with large crowds. Based on a Chevrolet chassis with a 6-liter 300 hp Vortec V8 engine, it's 27 feet long, 11 feet tall, and eight feet wide (8.2 x 3.3 x 2.4 meters), so twice longer than the original vehicle.

A team of Hotdoggers is constantly traveling onboard the Wienermobile, offering samples, Wiener Whistles, interior tours, hot dog jokes, and an assortment of Wiener jingles. The Winermobile experience is extraordinary for hot dog lovers – including Drew Barrymore at her most glamorous.
