Donkervoort is a company well known for taking the Lotus Seven concept and making it all Dutch... and crazy. Now they've made something that also embodies the exotic nature of something like a Koenigsegg with this, the D8 GTO RS Bare Naked Carbon Edition.
What's not to like about a super-lightweight two-seater that looks like it was ordered by somebody as rich as Mayweather? This first example just left the factory in the Netherlands and is headed to its home in German, where a life of second glances and careful detailing awaits it.
The car is made with naked carbon fiber, a technique where the instantly recognizable fiber structure remains visible and accentuates the high-tech and super-fast nature of the RS. Finished in a striking Monte Carlo Blue Carbon, the D8 reminds us of the Gemballa Mirage GT Carbon Edition, based on the Carrera GT, as well as the Zonda.
Of the 40 D8 GTO RS models, Donkervoort has already made 20 regular models. They are being followed by 15 of these carbon examples and who knows what else.
The ultra-light material is used to make 95% of the bodywork, including the ignition cylinder housing, and the roll-bar trim. The result is something that weighs only 695 kilograms (1,532 lbs).
Power continues to come from a 2.5-liter turbo engine of the 5-cylinder variety. Audi's mill is said to produce over 380 horsepower at 5,500rpm and 500 Newton-meters (369 pound-feet) of torque from as low as 1,750rpm. The powertrain also includes a 5-speed manual gearbox and a mechanical LSD, while the suspension is of the double-wishbone variety.
