Dodge Viper SRT10 Stays with Chrysler

After it initially announced it will discontinue the production of the impressive yet not very successful Dodge Viper, American manufacturer Chrysler has came back on its decision and it now says, in an official press release, it will continue production of the V10 Viper and, even more, is no longer seeking a buyer for Viper assets.

The Dodge Viper has successfully captured the hearts and imagination of performance enthusiasts around the globe. “We’re extremely proud that the ultimate American-built sports car with its world-class performance will live on as the iconic image leader for the Dodge brand," Mike Accavitti, Dodge CEO said in the release.

In mid-June, Chrysler restarted production of the facility responsible for manufacturing the Viper sports car. When it filed for bankruptcy however, plans were entirely different.

"As previously indicated, Chrysler LLC is evaluating strategic alternatives for the Viper business including the potential sale of the Viper nameplate, Conner Avenue Assembly Plant, and/or associated tooling and resources. During this process Chrysler has been approached by a number of parties interested in purchasing the business," said the company at the time.

So, Viper fans, the story is not over, but only beginning. For 2009 model year, Chrysler has prepared the huge 8.4l, 600 horsepower (450 kW) V10 engine, propelling the Viper from naught to sixty in less than four seconds and taking it from a naught to 100 mph in the low 12-second range.

With more horsepower, more torque and more than 30 exterior and interior color combinations, the latest Viper gives enthusiasts the performance they expect on the track and off, with more factory customization options than before,” says the manufacturer.
