The past year was laden with ups and downs for the Viper. Idled Conner Avenue Assembly plant, a serious price cut to $84,995 and the Viper GTC are the headlights, joined by a number of safety recalls. Regarding the latter subject, FCA US announced yet another Dodge Viper SRT recall.
Fiat-Chrysler US LLC released a statement in which we’re told that there’s a voluntary recall in effect. An estimated 1,762 examples of the American supercar need to visit their local dealers for a rather quick fix.
According to the Italo-American consortium, 1,451 units are located in the United States as 2013 and 2014 model year Vipers. In addition to those, some 160 affected Dodge Viper SRT vehicles are located in Canada, 17 are in Mexico, and 59 can be found outside the NAFTA region. These high-performance cars need a new pair of door handle assemblies.
Though the Fiat-Chrysler Group isn’t aware of any related injuries or accidents, FCA US LLC received three warranty claims that are linked to doors that failed to close or opened inadvertently while the vehicles were moving at slow speeds. After FCA engineers had investigated the problem, they’ve found that a newly adopted sealant provided sub-standard moisture protection to some electronic ensembles.
If water gets into the electronic switches that control the door latches, these gizmos may short-circuit. If you own a 2013 or 2014 model year Dodge Viper, Fiat-Chrysler informs that you will be notified and advised when to service your car at no cost to the owner. Affected customers may also contact FCA US at 1-800-853-1403 for further info on the recall.
