Dodge Demon vs. Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Drag Race Ends in Obliteration

While we're waiting for the Blue Oval to deliver the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500, the old incarnation of the Ford hero helps us pass the time, delivering plenty of velocity stunts. And the most recent episode of the kind sees the snake duking it out with a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.

Now, you would imagine that a drag race between these two muscle beasts involves a modded GT500, since the stock car can't keep up with the Demon. Well, this isn't the case here, with this Shelby coming in stock form. Heck, the machine even packs its street tires - while not everybody likes to go through the trouble of installing drag radials when hitting the drag strip, these would've certainly helped the driver get the thing off the line.

Keep in mind that the GT500 only comes in manual form and, as we found out in our review, pulling ideal launches doesn't always comes easy.

The two slabs of America got together at the drag strip, but actually raced in Canada, with the machines having met at the Mission Raceway Park.

In fact, the velocity beasts duked it out on two separate occasions, with the drivers feeling like going for a second run to spice things up even further. Truth be told, both machines delivered better times on their second runs.

As you'll be able to notice in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, one of the drivers wasn't up to the task. Then again, we wouldn't rush to conclusions. For one thing, perhaps the aficionado was new to the whole drag racing game and needed to practice.

Regardless, the aural side of this battle is just as enticing as the visual one. And while the Demon comes with its built-in, overly loud blower whine, the GT500 packs a more balanced decibel approach.
