With 585 horsepower, the Mercedes-AMG GT R might not sound like the sharpest drag racing tool in the shed. Nevertheless, when this slab of Germany is put to work, it demonstrates amazing straight-line abilities.
And we've now brought the GT R back under the spotlights, as we have a fresh drag race for you. Last time when we saw the Affalterbach toy in action, the thing battled a Lamborghini Huracan, with the fight keeping aficionados on their toes from start to finish.
This time around, though, the Benz dukes it out with what might be regarded as a closer rival, namely a Porsche 911. However, you shouldn't expect a 991.1 or a 991.2 model. Instead, we're talking about a 930, the last of the air-cooled Neunelfers.
"What kind of 930 could give a Mercedes-AMG GT R a run for its money?" we hear you asking. Well, the Zuffenhausen animal we have here has been taken deep down the aftermarket path.
This Porscha is animated by a built 3.4-liter flat-six with an intercooler the size of Germany. Then again, such a part is needed, with the car packing a Garrett GT400 turbocharger. Oh, and did we mention the E85 setup of the boxer motor? This helps the unit deliver around 700 ponies at the crank.
Nevertheless, this Porsche 911 does have a weak link, namely its gearbox. To be more precise, the thing packs a six-speed manual.
Since we mentioned the Lamborghini Huracan above, you should know that the mighty Porsche also battled the Raging Bull.
In fact, you'll get to see both races in the piece of footage below. Keep in mind that the age of the car determined the owner to go for rolling starts only, but we're not complaining here.
As a bonus, the clip also includes plenty of scenes captured from inside the 911, with the retro aroma being strong.
