De Tomaso SLC Coming to Geneva, Teasers

For those of you who still believed that the plans Gian Mario Rossignolo had for the De Tomaso brand were just wishful thinking, a wake up call will be made all the way from Geneva next month. There, the soon-to-be revived icon will be presenting its new vehicle, in all its glory, previewing what the former Fiat S.p.A marketing executive hopes to be a hit brand. The Geneva Auto Show will be the place where the new De Tomaso will be presenting its first new vehicle, the SLC. Although the exact details regarding the vehicle itself have not been released, a few things are known about this exciting new comer. To be built on an aluminum chassis, using a construction method called Univis (details about it to be revealed during the auto show). Under the hood, says Autocar, the new team working on the project will fit two versions of a V8 engine, capable of developing 542 bhp and 296 bhp, respectively, and a V6 diesel good for 247 bhp. The all wheel drive SLC (this is only the stage name, the production version to be called differently) will be built at the Grugliasco plant, with the output target set at 3,000 units a year. Hopefully, this year's presentation of a De Tomaso car at the Geneva Auto Show will be a bit more successful than the attempt made in 1996 with the sotta Fraschini T8 concept. autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
