De Puniet Signs Extension with Honda LCR for 2010

Following Ducati, Yamaha, Suzuki and Repsol Honda announcing their riders' lineup for the upcoming season, Honda LCR has also confirmed Randy de Puniet for 2010. The Frenchman will start his 5th consecutive MotoGP season next year on the RCV Honda and will look to improve his already great performances this year.

De Puniet is currently 9th overall in the riders' classification, having highlighted a 3rd place – second MotoGP podium in career – at Donington Park. The Frenchman scored points in every outing this year except for the race at the Sachsenring, which makes for his best season in the series up do date.

The 2010 season will be my fifth year in the MotoGP class. Honda is working hard to improve the RCV machine and the LCR Team is very professional and they are like a family for me. We have got the potential to make positive results and we will try again,” said De Puniet in a press release.

We are very happy to work with Randy next year. He still has a lot of potential and our aim was to continue the project we started together in MotoGP in 2008,” added team boss Lucio Cecchinello.

Honestly I am very confident of what we can achieve in 2010: we will work with the same style and with the same determination to make a step up in the quality of our organization and our on-track performances,” concluded the Italian team owner.

De Puniet started his relationship with Honda LCR at the end of 2007. In his first season with the Italian outfit, the Frenchman scored only 61 points – less than what he has gained until now in 2009 – and ended the championship in 15th place. If he manages to keep his pace in the closing 4 rounds of the season, De Puniet has a high chance of finishing inside the MotoGP Top 10 for the first time in career.
