De Puniet Confirmed for Brno, Despite Ankle Injury

Randy de Puniet today confirmed that he will compete in this weekend's Czech republic Grand Prix, despite the ankle injury he suffered while motocrossing in France earlier this month. According to the 28-year old Frenchman, the recovery programme went well and he is now back on his bike and ready to tackle the technical layout of the Brno Automotodrom.

The LCR Honda rider was joined by his physical trainer at Aix en Provence two weeks ago in a motocross event, as part of their training programme for the 2009 MotoGP season. Unfortunately, De Puniet fell off his bike and was immediately taken to the nearest hospital, where the doctors inserted a screw in his ankle.

While unable to tell whether the Frenchman will make the grid at Brno or not, the French doctors sent De Puniet at the Clinica Mobile, where he was to conduct some further medical tests. Until earlier today, no one was really sure what the outcome will be.

Immediately after the surgery I was unsure about things and thought I would have not been able to race in Brno. But thanks to the rehabilitation programme my ankle is improving day by day,” said De Puniet, according to the MotoGP official site.

I can easily move it and I will be fit for the race. Brno is one of my favorite race tracks and the good results we have got in the first part of the season give us more motivation to be at the front,” added the LCR Honda rider, who will come to Czech Republic after a breathtaking performance at Donington Park (first podium in the MotoGP since the 2007 Japanese Grand Prix, coming 3rd at the finish line).
