De Puniet Breaks Ankle During Motocross Event

Randy de Puniet's incredible podium at the Donington Park two weekends ago seems to have made the Frenchman a bit overenthusiastic these days. While most of his MotoGP rivals are taking the 3-week break in the championship to rest and enjoy some quality time outside racing, De Puniet decided to do a motocross event last weekend, at Aix en Provence.

Unfortunately for the LCR Honda rider, he sustained a serious injury to his left ankle when falling off his motocross bike and is now uncertain to join the field in the upcoming Czech Republic Grand Prix.

De Puniet was immediately taken to the nearest hospital and underwent surgery to his ankle, where he was inserted a screw. However, the doctors couldn't predict the period of time he will have to stay in recovery until being able to get back on his LCR-prepared Honda. The Frenchman is expected to visit the Clinica Mobile later this week and get a clear answer on his inactivity period.

Yves and I planned a specific training programme to improve my performance on track this year. This programme helped me a lot so far and, though the summer break, I could not stop training for two weeks' time. That's why we went out to make a short motocross training,” said De Puniet, motivating his presence at the motocross event last weekend.

Unfortunately I had a fall and the impact on the ground caused me the fracture of the left ankle. I am very disappointed for this inconvenience but training is very important for me to be well fitted on track. Will do my best to race in Brno and I am sure that the Clinica Mobile staff will support me in the best way,” added the French rider, according to British magazine Autosport.

The race at Brno is scheduled two weekends from now, on August 16th.
