Part of the so-called “charge@work” project, Daimler AG will make no less than 260 vehicles available to its employees in Germany as an in-house fleet.
To make the endeavor just a bit more effective, over 170 charging points at the five Mercedes-Benz plants in Stuttgart are already built so charging the cars at work shouldn't pose such a challenge.

Starting in just a few days, Daimler will successively adopt no less than 220 smart fortwo electric drive and 40 Mercedes-Benz A-Class E-Cell cars into the aforementioned fleet.

The vehicles will be made available to willing company employees for whatever use they desire, be it work-related or private use. Since the A-Class E-Cell cars are technically prototypes, they will only be used for individual shuttling between Mercedes-Benz factories, with the production fortwos electric drive being available for hire either on a weekly, monthly or annual basis.

The press release is pretty ambiguous about the costs but we're guessing that Daimler wouldn't go as far as charging their own employees for using the electric cars, especially since the project is part of over 40 initiatives in the “LivingLab BWe mobil” program, which is sponsored by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature conservation and Nuclear Safety.
