Daimler Cleared for 2010 Exec Remuneration

Following a not-so exciting year in terms of sales, German carmaker Daimler thought it's for the best to hire accounting firm Ernst & Young to carry out an independent appraisal of the system of Board of Management remuneration, in light of Germany's new legislation. The findings of the accounting firm: no rules are broken.

The result shows that by emphasizing the long-term elements of remuneration and the Board of Management members’ obligation to hold Daimler shares and thus to invest a part of their private assets in the company, we already focused our remuneration system on sustainability at an early stage,” Manfred Bischoff, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Daimler said.

It is not clear what the remuneration system for the company's Supervisory Board stipulates, as the carmaker plans to present it to the Annual Shareholders’ Meeting in April 2010.

But like in the past, we will continue to monitor developments in the German market, in particular at the 30 DAX companies and at our international competitors, and if necessary we will review the focus of remuneration once again next year.”

In late October, the carmaker said it a an increase in revenue for the fourth quarter, despite the decreases in unit sales and revenue in full-year 2009.

"We are now very well positioned and can look with confidence to the coming year, which will remain challenging due to the still-difficult situation of automobile markets worldwide," Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler said at the time.
