Also sold as a Renault, the Sandero is a low-cost supermini jointly developed by Renault and Romanian subsidiary Dacia. It has good ol' front-wheel drive, petrol and diesel four-cylinder engines, a spartan interior and a lot of space, but hey, the entry-level variant is priced from £5,995 in the United Kingdom, which is very cheap for a brand spanking new car.
But as parent company Renault sauces up its Clio with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with 200 horsepower on tap, a lot of petrolheads were wondering if the similarly sized Sandero will also get the Renault Sport treatment. Just think about how successful such a car would considering it would be much cheaper than the Clio RS (£20,590 incl. VAT).

A Dacia Sandero RS would be lighter than the Clio RS, fitted with a proper stick shift gearbox to cut production costs and a hoon to drive. But if you add an estimated £15,000 sticker price to the mix, then why the hell not? Renault would sell this thing by the bucket load because many people want a new, practical car that goes like stink and costs pennies to buy and maintain.

Now here's the piece of good news you were waiting for: Renault Sport boss Patrice Ratti has told the Brits over at AutoCar that a hot Sandero is in the pipeline, but like all things sounding too good to be true, the Dacia Sandero RS will be sold in emerging markets as Russia and Brazil. Boo and hiss!

Ratti also mentioned that the Clio RS' 1.6L turbo mill won't be adopted by the Sandero RS 'cos "a Sandero is lighter than a Clio, so you don't need that much power." Nevertheless, if you guys get at least 150 horsepower from whatever you shoehorn in the engine bay, be it naturally aspirated or turbocharged, everybody would jump with joy with that sort of oomph for that little money.

With no further info available at the present moment on the hot version of the Dacia Sandero, all we can do until new info surfaces is to look at the rendered Sandero RS below and keep them fingers crossed.
