Dacia Reaches 300,000 Units Gearbox Production Milestone

Earlier today, we reported that Dacia will start producing engines that meet the Euro V emissions level for its own cars, as well as for Renault, Nissan and Renault Samsung vehicles.

Now, it is time for Dacia’s gearbox production to make to the news. Renault Mecanique Roumanie (RMR), a part of Dacia’s Mioveni (Romania) plant announced that it reached a transmission production milestone, as it has built the gearbox number 300,000. The transmission will be fitted to a Dacia Duster 4x4, produced by the Dacia Assembly Plant.

Production at RMR debuted almost three years ago, with the site now building nine varieties of the TL4 gearbox range. The transmissions are supplied to the Renault plants in Dubai, Sandouville, Maubeuge (France), Oyak (Turkey) and for the Nissan sites in Sunderland (UK) and Oppama (Japan). The RMR also supplies the Dacia Assembly Plant, offering two series' varieties and one belonging to the TL8 project. Starting from April 2010, RMR supplies the Dacia Assembly plant as follows: the TL4 gearbox for the Duster 4x2 and the TL8 transmission for the 4x4 version of the SUV (both of them are six speed manual boxes).

The TL gearbox built at Dacia is used by multiple Renault models (Clio, Modus, Kangoo, Megane, Scenic, Laguna), on Nissan models (Tiida, Sentra, Versa, Latio, Livia, Note, Qashqai), and on the Dacia Duster.

RMR has a production capacity of 5,000 transmissions per week and is integrated in Dacia’s Mioveni Powertrain and Chassis plant. Last year, the site manufactured 446, 252 gearboxes (JH, a five speed manual transmission and TL4, a six speed manual one).
