Custom 1988 BMW 6-Series For Sale at $250,000

Considering we’re talking about a mass produced car from 1988, the price tag of $250,000 seems to be truly staggering. After hearing about the car model and the price, one question comes to mind: what’s so special about this car?

Well, the 6-Series has got new rims, a lot of bodywork, a special bodykit, a spectacular leather interior and a complete mechanical overhauling which includes an engine swap. The car is now powered by a 315 hp 3.5-liter inline six-cylinder engine from the 1992 M5 E45 and a manual gearbox.

“The original E24 M6 model has outstanding BMW workmanship and for its era it was and still is an automotive Super car icon. For a guy like me who had leased the new 2006 M5, 2007 M6 and 2007 MCoupe and was used to new cars' technology, I wanted features like Alcantara headliner, Bluetooth and ventilated and heated seats like my E60 M5,” says the owner.

“I also wanted more performance than an original E24 M6 without all the computers and complexity of the new generation M6, yet I still wanted the the ipod interface and more aggressive look without the fading aluminum and poly eurothane bumper moldings for the 1988-89 models and typical E24 M model lingering problems like the front suspension, crankshaft or grinding synchro issues.”

The car had a price drop to $45,000 but only for a day, after which the price went back up to $250,000. The owner explained: “I decided today that it is not worth parting with my baby for less than $250,000. So the price starts here, regardless of any logic. It's mine and when someone wants it they have to pay my price to get it, period. Otherwise one shall build his/her own.”
