Plenty of muscle cars were born back in the 1960s and 1970s, but not many of them are as representative of the segment as more powerful versions of the Mustang. Perhaps because it is one of the few that are still around, or maybe because of something else, the Ford is still an icon, even decades after it was made.
And we’re not only referring to the current generation, which is selling like hotcakes, by the way, but also to the cars that have been wearing this name and badge for a number of decades now. For the custom industry, early Mustangs are heaven-sent, but the end result is not always worthy of the legacy.

The Mustang in the gallery above sure looks like it is. Having started life as a 1965 model year equipped with a 289ci (4.7-liter) V8, it now comes with both altered looks and a larger engine to be enjoyed.

As the images show, although it retains much of its original shape, the Mustang’s body does come with its share of modifications. The front fascia, side scoops, Shelby GT350-style hood, and rear fascia have all been modified or added to make the car look closer in design to our time, while at the same time keeping true to what the people behind the original Mustang intended for the car.

As said, the stock 289ci engine is no longer to be found under the hood. Its place was taken by a 302ci (5.0-liter) V8, also of Ford origin. Linked to a five-speed manual transmission, it is said to develop 350 hp.

The only things that bug us about it are the GT350 decals that adorn it for no particular reason.

Even so, the looks and potential of this Mustang are appreciated to the fullest by the people in the market for one, as the price offered for it on an auction site shows. With some 8 days left in the process, the car already drew enough attention so that the highest bid is $47,000 at the time of this write-up.
