Coulthard Considers Return to Racing

David Coulthard might have chosen a very bad time to hang up his racing gloves in Formula One. The Scottish driver decided to walk away from the series at the end of 2008, while choosing to stay committed to his Red Bull team as racing advisor.

However, given the fact that his former outfit has become a regular winner in the championship, DC's desire to go racing again seems to have reached the next level. At 38, the former Williams and McLaren Mercedes driver is considering a potential return to racing, although not necessarily in the Great Circle.

I was fine at the start of the year, but by the end the old competitive juices were bubbling to the surface,” said Coulthard in his column for the Telegraph, while also telling reporters in Beijing that “at 38, I know I have some racing left in me – not in Formula One, perhaps, but in other series and challenges.

The Scot is currently in the Chinese capital to contest in the Race of Champions, where he is to partner newly crowned F1 champion Jenson Button in the Team Great Britain lineup for the Nations Cup.

Aside from his advisor commitments with Red Bull Racing, Coulthard was also reserve driver for the Milton Keynes team for the majority of the year. Also, he is an expert pundit for British broadcaster BBC, alongside former F1 team boss Eddie Jordan and former F1 driver Martin Brundle.

In recent years, most of the F1 retirees chose to switch to endurance racing, the most common championship they ended up in being the Le Mans Series. David Coulthard is yet to try that, as he also is yet to debut in the Le Mans 24 Hour Race. German series DTM would also be a place where he could land a seat in 2010, given the immense Red Bull backing in the championship.
