Coulthard Appointed Reserve Driver for Red Bull, Again

David Coulthard was today confirmed as Red Bull's new test and reserve driver for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Following the promotion of 19-year old Jaime Alguersuari to the race driving role with Scuderia Toro Rosso, the former F1 driver decided to take on the testing job until the end of the season.

This is not the first time this year DC is the official reserve driver for the two Red Bull backed teams – RBR Renault and STR Ferrari – as the 38-year old Scot has taken that role in the first 4 rounds of the 2009 season.

Starting the Spanish GP, he was replaced by New Zealand's teenager Brandon Hartley, who had some problems getting his FIA super license in the early stages of the season. Some Grands Prix later, it was Jaime Alguersuari's turn to step in and take the job, while Hartley preferred to focus on his racing programme inside the F3 Championship and World Series by Renault.

Even if the Spaniard was confirmed as race driver for the remaining 8 rounds of the 2009 season for Toro Rosso, Hartley chose not to take on the Faenza team's offer as test/reserve driver returnee. Until the Red Bull officials will decide upon a new test driver, DC will gladly provide the two teams with a backup plan for the Hungarian race.

In addition to his new role, Coulthard will remain team consultant for the Milton Keynes based team, while also continuing as commentator for British broadcaster BBC.
