Jumping on the roof of a car thinking it could deter its driver from speeding off is never a good idea. That’s because the driver might not care about your safety, and drive off regardless of what you do.
Apparently, this also applies if you’re a cop. So if you’re ever in the line of duty and are trying to convince a driver to not flee the scene, watch this video and consider taking his or her car keys instead. Because they might just drive off with you on the roof, hanging on for dear life.
A video shot in Lingbi county, Anhui province, east China, has gone viral for capturing a very strange, funny but still dangerous police car chase. It started when one cop tried to ticket a driver for illegally parking his tiny minivan on the pavement.
According to the Daily Mail, trouble started when the police officer asked for the driver’s license. He didn’t have one, so he tried to make a run for it, using his tiny vehicle as an escape car. He didn’t count on the cop’s willingness to stop him at all costs, jumping on the roof of the car as a means to get him to stay put.
Then again, neither did the cop count on the driver’s desperation. So, with the officer on the roof, the driver left the scene and started a slow-speed chase that lasted for more than 8 miles and stopped abruptly in a nearby village.
It was captured on the dash cam of a nearby vehicle, and it would be hilarious if it weren’t dangerous. Though it’s clear that the driver isn’t going full speed (either because his tiny car won’t allow it or because he’s afraid he might kill the cop), this is still a dangerous stunt to pull.
After meandering on country roads, the driver eventually pulled over and the cop could get back down to safety. Neither he nor the other officer on the moped, who had been trying to get him to stop all along, was injured.
