Watch too many movies and you might be tempted to believe that flying a plane can be easily done by someone without any kind of training whatsoever.
Without getting into the long debate of whether today’s teens can tell the difference between reality and make-believe, one 18-year-old from Arkansas has been formally charged after trying to steal a 44-seat jet, Arkansas Online reports.

Zemarcuis Devon Scott wanted to attend a rap concert in another state and had no money to get there. Somehow, he thought stealing a plane would work, even though he had no training or experience as a pilot.

Hilariously, he told arresting officers that he thought flying a plane was a simple matter of pressing buttons and pulling levers. You know, like you see in movies. He also admitted he needed the plane to get to an out of state rap concert.

Scott was charged with commercial burglary and attempted theft of property with a value greater than $25,000, the publication reports. He’s being held on a $25,000 bond and is due in court this month. The incident occurred on the 4th of July. Who needs fireworks when you can get your kicks by trying to steal planes?

According to the police report, an airport security employee called 911 after seeing someone on the surveillance camera, jumping a fence and heading towards a small commercial plane. By the time security personnel and the police arrived, Scott had entered the jet and locked the door behind him.

Officers saw him in the cockpit, as he was trying to find his way around the buttons, presumably attempting to start the plane. His hands were not in plain view, so they feared he might have a gun; they kept him under surveillance until the door was opened and an officer got to him, restraining him. Eventually, he was arrested without incident.
