Just a couple of days ago, Mercedes Benz introduced a stunning design study for the next generation of the A-Klasse, its smallest offering. The concept is heavily influenced by the brand’s recent designs, namely the F800 and the CLS Shooting Brake.
Now, the German carmaker has released a couple of interesting videos of the new vehicle on its Youtube channel, explaining the importance of the design and showing it in motion.
Mark Fetherston, the team leader of the exterior design of new concept cars, shows us a sneak peak of the exterior in between photo-shoots. The first A-Klasse was a tall, boxy looking thing, so we are glad to see that the concept has more coupe-ish looks and a low roofline, plus a nicely flowing shape.
The designer then talks about the all-important stance, the way the car looks planted and secure while on the road. You really get the feeling that he has done his job right and is proud of the product of his labor.
The front end of the concept is a real eye-catcher, as the brand logo appears to be surrounded by a starry sky. Where there are usually apertures or louvres, the radiator grille consists of numerous metallic silver “dots” on black stems. This theme is also reflected in the design of the wheels.
A very special effect is created by the lights, as the full-LED high-performance headlamps repeat the starry sky theme with numerous lighting points. The daytime running lamps consist of 90 optical fibers with aluminum sleeves, and they are arranged in a wing-shape within the headlamp.
