For over a year now, German automaker Mercedes keeps saying that the new generation A-Klasse (and for that matter, the B-Klasse as well) will be revolutionary and aimed at a broader specter of consumers than the one on the market today.
The model that has been considered by most not to be a pure bread Mercedes is going through a radical transformation, and the results of all the work done in Stuttgart and elsewhere will be presented, for the first time, during the Shanghai Auto Show next week.
The new generation A-Klasse will spawn from the model Mercedes will present in China as the Concept A-Klasse: the most radical and aggressive interpretation of the model that has come to be known over the years as a girl car.
Powered by a 2.0l four cylinder petrol engine, which develops 210 hp, the Concept A-Klasse also relies on the BlueEFFICIENCY range of technologies to provide a low fuel consumption figure, while at the same time retaining the power levels Mercedes has gotten us used to, with the help of a turbocharger.
Design wise, the Concept A-Klasse looks nothing like the model currently on the market. In the case of this two-door four seater, as the concept presents itself, the lines are more prominent, the front end more modern, the back end sportier and the interior, at least as far as Mercedes lets us see for more, much more carefully crafted.
It's not clear what are the exact lines that the new generation compact Mercedes will borrow from the concept, but, if the designers take one ounce of inspiration from the Concept A, then the new model might as well succeed in bringing to the Mercedes A-Klasse pool of buyers the younger people the German automaker is after.
