Most people sort of hate coffee rings because they tend to ruin the surfaces they appear on. Whether it’s the varnish on pieces of furniture, more or less important papers and so on, it’s not unusual to hear curse words accompanying the marks coffee mugs leave behind. However, if you‘re a creative graphic artists such as Carter Asmann, you’ll be happy to see a coffee ring.
This California-based artist is in fact creating his own coffee rings which serve as the pivotal point for his new drawings. Is it too much to say that the bikes he draws seem like probably the first thing to take shape from the initial two coffee rings? May be it is to some, but in the mind of a biker, this is only nature following its basic ways.
Truth be told, there is nothing exceedingly exceptional about these drawings, as they don’t really bring any groundbreaking technique or a vision that’s so stunningly different from what we’ve been used to so that it would shake our foundations.
Asmann’s art is instead showing a good definition of what “fine arts” stands for. His creations are not centered on the usual bling we stumble upon on so many occasions these days and he manages to produce eye-candy drawings without making use of any “recipes”. His motorbikes and cars rely on the very history these models and their inherent mojo.
Boasting a dramatically more minimalist approach to motorcycle art than say, David Uhl, Carter Asmann’s creations aren’t lacking any of the true biker vibe. With a penchant on modernism, his drawings exude light and brightness, focusing on the very bikes, and his makes them much more suitable for any type of home, club house, or pub décor than many others we’ve encountered.
And with the Carter Asman coffee ring prints selling for $60 (€) a pop, they’re not even expensive and cam make a glorious gift for a bike lover. How about having them in the same room with this full-size model kit classic American monster?
