Citroen is hanging on for dear life in Europe by cutting its workforce and reducing output. But in China, the Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroen joint venture is selling almost half a million cars a year.
A large part of that is the C5 sedan, which is why the French carmaker wants to diversify the model range. Car New China reports that a 1.6-liter turbo, THP as Citroen calls it, version of the sedan is being tested.
Currently, the most basic C5 sold in China comes with a 2.0-liter 147 hp engine. The European version of the 1.6 THP offers 156 hp and should improve economy as well. With a manual, it gets 6.7 l/100km on the combined cycle and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in a brisk 8.6 seconds.
Of course, Dongfeng won't replace the bigger 2-liter with the new 1.6 turbo because it's very popular.
