The Chinese people are able to, as of yesterday, to feast their eyes on what Europe’s finest car designers have come up with: the Citroen DS4 and DS5 (which we recently tested and enjoyed very much). The DS range was launched in China with a ceremony where the No.9 concept as well as the classic Citroen DS of the 1960s were present.
Orders for the cars can now be placed at Citroen dealers across the country, but customers may have to wait a while to receive their cars, as they will be imported from Europe. This won’t always be the story, though, as the end of 2013 will bring forth the start of Chinese production of the car.
Sadly, Chinese buyers won’t be able to choose any of the PSA group’s excellent diesel engines, as the China-bound DS4 and DS5 will only be available with the 1.6-liter turbo engine with 160 hp, which will be mated to the group’s less-than-perfect automated manual gearbox.
Pricing-wise, the DS4 range will kick off at 242,800 yuan (€30,500) and rise to 272,000 yuan (€34,000), while the larger DS5 will be priced between 298,000 and (€37,600 and €44,000).
