Chrysler to Refresh Seven Models in 18 Months

Chrysler will announce its five-year plan on November 4 but it seems that the US-based manufacturer wants to redesign seven or more models in the next 18 months, as part of its attempt to increase its domestic market share. According to the Detroit Free Press, the 18-month timeframe represents half the time these projects would need before stepping in bankruptcy and becoming a Fiat ally.

As a result of such optimistic plans, Chrysler will take several measures, including hiring new people and purchasing parts, interiors and workstations.

Sergio Marchionne has already announced its enthusiastic plans for Chrysler but the full product strategy for the United States will be unveiled on November 4.

"All the work that has gone on here since we came in on June 10 has been geared at providing the framework to effectively drive volume over the medium to long term,"
Marchionne said in a statement.

Furthermore, the Italian explains that the September sales, which are lower as compared to the ones in August - mostly because the closure of the Cash for Clunkers programme - are not relevant for Chrysler's future.

"September is not an indication of future performance, I’m not apologizing for it, it is the consequence of a number of actions that were taken in the past, all of which have culminated in the month of September – you may see similar numbers in October, I don’t know," he explained. "And I would just ask you to wait until November and you can see it. The future is a lot a lot better than the market share in September would indicate."
