Chrysler 200C Hybrid Coming

Chrysler takeover by the Fiat Group means that the American automotive producer is making efforts to reinvent itself, with one of the main new directions being efficient vehicles.

Under the aforementioned plan to take advantage of the car market’s efficiency trend, Chrysler has recently filed a request to trademark the 200C name, as Noticiasautomotivas reports.

The 200C name is expected to be used for a future production version of the EV 200C concept car, that was presented at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. The vehicle should enter the market sometime in 2013.

The car could share its platform with a future Lancia vehicle, using a hybrid powertrain.

The Chrysler 200C EV concept is an extended-range electric vehicle that uses a gasoline engine and an electric motor, which offer a combined output of 268 hp. This allows the vehicle to offer a good level of performance, needing around seven seconds to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standing start.

The vehicle is capable of driving 40 miles powered exclusively by electricity, with its total driving range reaching 400 miles.

"The Chrysler 200C EV concept represents the perfect blend of provocative design and leading-edge technology, as well as the new Chrysler DNA," Frank Klegon, Executive Vice President - Product Development, Chrysler LLC, said during the presentation of the concept. "Chrysler's latest concept vehicle combines the benefits of progressive, ENVI Range-extended Electric Vehicle technology - which offers nearly zero emissions during daily commutes - with a design that boasts a combination of modern shapes, a planted athletic stance with classic overtones and an undeniably luxurious interior."
