2011 Formula One Calendar Leaked

The calendar for the 2011 season of Formula One has apparently leaked during the course of last weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix. At the Hungaroring, German publication sport1 revealed that the next year's season of the Great Circus will incorporate an unprecedented 20 races, confirming Bernie Ecclestone's dream earlier this season.

The current F1 calendar has 19 races, starting with the Bahrain Grand Prix and ending with the Abu Dhabi race, in mid November. According to the German source, the 2011 schedule begins and ends with the same locations – to be held on March 13th and November 13th respectively – but an additional circuit will make its entrance into the series.

We're talking about the Indian Grand Prix – the much promised and awaited Asian race – which is apparently scheduled for October 9th.

A bad news for the drivers will be that the traditional 4-week summer break in August will turn into a 3-week vacation, with the addition of this race. Further tweaks to the calendar include a rescheduling of the Korean Grand Prix from October (like in 2010) to April, one week after the Chinese Grand Prix.

Only after the Korean race, the European season will get off with the Spanish GP, scheduled 3 weeks later.

Prior to the China-Korea double, Australia and Malaysia will also go back-to-back in the early stages of the season. Similar scheduling (consecutive weekends) have been approved for Germany-Hungary and Belgium-Valencia.

The most important challenge for the teams – logistically speaking – will be the Brazilian/Japanese Grands Prix double header in October.
