Chris Perry Put in Charge of Chevrolet Marketing

After a relatively long period of tranquility at the top of GM's leadership, the announcement that the current CEO, Ed Whitacre, will be leaving the company this September seems to cause yet another episode of management changes.

The first one is the appointment of Chris Perry in the position of vice president Chevrolet marketing. Perry will take the position immediately, replacing Jim Campbell, who moves on to become vice president, Performance Vehicles and Motorsports.

“Chris brings 25 years of marketing experience – more than 20 years in the automotive industry - to the Chevrolet marketing position,” said GM's vice president of Marketing Joel Ewanick when announcing the appointment.

“I have worked with Chris in the past and know he will use his unique ability to integrate strategic and creative marketing activities across all communications disciplines to reconnect consumers to the Chevrolet brand.”

Perry has been until now vice president for marketing at the South Koreans from Hyundai, a company which he joined in 2000 as head of brand planning. He moved on to hold several positions in the carmaker's marketing and advertising.

Before Hyundai, Perry was employed by American Isuzu Motors, where he also worked in the marketing and advertising departments.

As for Campbell, his move to the Performance Vehicles and Motorsports division of GM comes as a natural evolution of his career. The carmaker says Campbell has very good knowledge of the Corvette and Camaro vehicles and has worked across a variety of race series, including NASCAR, American Lemans Series and Grand Am Road Racing.
