“The 21st century rebirth of the Chevrolet Camaro will open a new chapter when the Convertible hits the scene in early 2011. The Convertible will come standard with the 312 HP in the Coupe standard model with Direct Injected V6 engine, or available in the the legendary SS model featuring the 6.2-liter V8 engine,” according to Chevy’s Camaro Den web page that announces the launch.
Top down, we get a glimpse of the orange seats, typical to Camaros. The 2+2 configuration means however that there is not that much legroom for the back seat occupants. This is not that big of a problem however, as a lot of convertibles have to deal with this issue. The car also looks good with the top up, which is half the battle won for GM, as most manufacturers seem to fail at it these days.
The car will only be available for purchase in March 2011. As long as GM has been working on the new Camaro, the convertible should have been available from day one in our opinion. This will surely hurt Chevy’s market share, as the 2010 Mustang Convertible is already out and looking good.
A question that is on all our minds is whether chopping the roof has added a lot of weight to the car. Knowing GM, they will try to keep it under the 2-ton mark in order to keep the sportscar image they worked so hard on.
The Camaro Convertible should see its official debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Scheduled to take place between the 19th and 28th this month, the event "interacts" with Thanksgiving. Thus, we must thank the Lord for this Camaro, for it is good.
