On February 7th, the Chicago Auto Show will open its doors to the public. Among the scheduled debut is GM's first real attempt of selling a diesel car to the average American.
We're talking about the Cruze Diesel, which has reportedly been developed with help from European engineers at Opel. General Motors spokesman Terry Rhadigan confirmed yesterday that the car will be shown in Chicago and will go on sale later in the year.
Not that much is known about the engine at this moment. Though it's believed to have been developed in collaboration with engineers at GM’s center in Torino, Italy. Meanwhile, GM engineers in Russelsheim, Germany, are supporting the program by developing the accessory drive, acoustic cover and other specialized components.
The engine will probably be a 2-liter unit with common-rail direct injection, it should provide about 160 horsepower, enough to take the Cruze from 0 to 60 mph in about 9 seconds. Chicago is likely the place where the mid-life refresh for the popular sedan will be revealed to American buyers.
