On February 7th, the Chicago Auto Show will open its doors to the public. Among the scheduled debut is GM's first real attempt of selling a diesel car to the average American.
We're talking about the Cruze Diesel, which has reportedly been developed with help from European engineers at Opel. General Motors spokesman Terry Rhadigan confirmed yesterday that the car will be shown in Chicago and will go on sale later in the year.

Not that much is known about the engine at this moment. Though it's believed to have been developed in collaboration with engineers at GM’s center in Torino, Italy. Meanwhile, GM engineers in Russelsheim, Germany, are supporting the program by developing the accessory drive, acoustic cover and other specialized components.

The engine will probably be a 2-liter unit with common-rail direct injection, it should provide about 160 horsepower, enough to take the Cruze from 0 to 60 mph in about 9 seconds. Chicago is likely the place where the mid-life refresh for the popular sedan will be revealed to American buyers. The changes aren't going to be radical, but you can check out one of our previous posts on the Cruze facelift if you want an idea what to expect.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
