The Cruze, built and sold in Australia as a Holden, has just received a power boost for its 1.4-liter turbocharged engine. The Opel-sourced unit originally produced 138 hp and 200 Nm (147 lb-ft), but Walkinshaw performance have developed a power boost kit which takes the power to unimaginable levels, for a 1.4.
Now for the numbers. The 1.4-liter engine is boosted by as much as 80% when it comes to power and some 50% when it comes to torque. This means that maximum power is now a whopping 241 hp, while torque also rises considerably, reaching 310 Nm.
However, a simple remap was not enough for such a hefty increase, so the tuner gave the Cruze an upgraded turbocharer, a custom stainless steel exhaust system and a custom exhaust manifold. To help keep the car on the road, it has also been fitted with uprated suspension, brakes (four-piston calipers), as well as some nifty-looking 18-inch rims by Irmscher.
These mods really raise the Cruze’s performance levels to those of a hot hatch, and while it may lack some of the more sophisticated suspension tricks that the best hot hatches get these days, it should have no problem keeping up with them on the straights. No word on pricing, but whatever it costs, it is a great addition to any Holden Cruze.
