Chevrolet Aveo Goes on the MPG Marathon

After yesterday Ford announced the Focus RS will enter the British MPG Marathon, set to take place between September 30 and October 1, GM steps forward and announces the Chevrolet Aveo will also take on the challenge.

According to the manufacturer, the Aveo will be driven by the Marathon's "youngest" entrant, 17-year old Joe Durkin, from Falmout, Cornwall. Unlike Ford, however, GM has not specifically set a goal for itself in beating some mileage record.

"I’ve told my mates what I’m doing, and they think it’s quite cool,” Durkin said in a release. “The Aveo’s a smart looking car, and I’m going to be driving it in a smart way.”

"In previous years, Chevrolet demonstrated how Sports Utility Vehicles could be used responsibly by taking seven adults in a Captiva, emitting less CO2 than seven adults in two hatchbacks, while last year two Aveos competed side by side, one driven economically, one driven normally, to illustrate how a careful driver could save themselves over £600 a year by driving responsibly," GM added.

As we said, Ford on the other hand is trying to beat Focus RS' 30.1 mpg combined fuel economy (9.38l/100 km) by achieving a 35 mpg average (8l/100 km) on the 360 miles-long route (580 km).

"I'm setting out to prove you can use an efficient high-performance car in daily driving without enormous fuel bills," said Jeremy, the one who will drive the RS.

The MPG Marathon will be comprised of two loops, each starting and ending at Brandon Hall Hotel, near Coventry.
