Chevrolet knows a thing or two firsthand about how its parent GM's Ultium electric car revolution quickly went off the rails. In fact, even its normal models, like the 2024 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, recently had software issues.
So, it's no wonder why the largest US automaker has slightly backtracked from its decision to go all-in on EVs with the strategic idea of bringing back plug-in hybrids. In fact, in China, an all-new 2025 Chevrolet Equinox Plus PHEV was teased ahead of its official unveiling and launch in the market late next month during the 2024 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition (Auto China), taking place between April 25 and May 4.
Thus, while they are bringing back some technology they thought they didn't need anymore, how about if they also start thinking about new ways of making their current range a little more compelling? Just in case they don't want to do it because we all know these big companies are a little stubborn and few (good) things get through the bureaucracy to reach the corner office head honchos, some people would love to point them in the right direction.
Sometimes, these folks also tend to take matters into their own hands – or rather, at the tip of their CGI brush, as is the case here with the imaginative realm of digital car content creators. For example, Jim, the virtual artist known as jlord8 on social media, loves messing around with all things CGI from GM, but his minivan love kicks in quirkily and all over the place.
More precisely, he started the digital projects with the Chevy Express 2500 commercial van and decided to add the 2024 Traverse visage to make it more akin to the retail side of the business. His CGI Chevy Express RS looks great with a new front end and ritzier wheels. Then he backtracked to the end of the 20th century and decided to bring back the old-school Chevy Astro van with updated front styling but virtually the same iconic profile.
Well, if any of that isn't your minivan cup of tea, then perhaps this third 'minivan' idea will be more to your liking – especially if you're the type of person who loves the great outdoors and trail adventures. His dream is simple yet (probably) technically impossible – the pixel master has decided to "stretch and distort" a 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 into an 'Astro Overland.'
Basically, he took the mid-size pickup truck's flagship off-road trim level (the rig starts at $48,395 with the 310-hp TurboMax engine and eight-speed auto transmission), gave it an enclosed truck bed and somehow fitted a pair of rear sliding doors. For sure, it looks cool – but would anyone use it to take the kids to school and practice during the week and hit the overlanding trails during the weekends, or is this merely wishful thinking?
