American manufacturer GM released yesterday the first sketches of their upcoming hatch, the Chevrolet Agile. Scheduled to be released in the fourth quarter of 2009, the Agile is defined by GM as being "designed from the ground up to meet the needs of an auto compact, versatile and great design."
"The Agile goes beyond a traditional hatchback. Our task was to design a vehicle for a demanding client. Great design, interior space and versatility to attract customers from a different urban public to a surfer who loves the countryside," Carlos Barba, GM Design director said in a release.
GM says the new Agile boasts the new visual identity of Chevrolet, both on the outside and on the inside. The Agile was designed to give the driver a higher driving position. The hatch is the first one to be built on the Live platform, 100 percent developed in GM's Design Center Mercosur in Brazil. The car will be powered by one of two engines: either a 1.4l 105 hp unit or a 1.8l 129 hp engine.
"Our plant in Rosario is changing for the arrival of Agile. We installed new robots and we have trained our operators to ensure their safety and quality of vehicles, to begin to successfully produce this model in the country," Miguel Garcia, GM Manufacturing Argentina director added.
So far, this is all GM said about the upcoming Agile, yet, with the official launch only months away, additional details are poised to become available. Rumor has it the American manufacturer is also planning the production of the Agile in the Lake Orion facility.
