Kia has added two diesel engines to the model line-up, by introducing a new VR-7 special edition of the cee’d and pro_cee’d. Also added to the end-of-year range will be a fresh version of the Sorento.

The VR-7 special edition, initially launched as a 1.4-liter petrol version in September, is now available with Kia’s economical 1.6 CRDi turbodiesel engine in both the cee’d and pro_cee’d family hatchbacks. A number of standard features have been added over the standard model, including Bluetooth, iPod connectivity and reverse parking sensors that add extra convenience, whilst the 16-inch alloy wheels and body-coded, heated and electrically operated door mirrors enhance the exterior looks. Inside we find a 6-speaker CD/stereo, leather finish to the steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake lever and ‘one-touch’ electric front windows.

The 1.6 CRDi engine delivers 89 hp at 4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 173lb/ft (234 Nm) from 1,750 rpm. The VR-7 spec cee’d now deals with the 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) dash in 13.5 seconds and has a top speed of 107 mph (172 km/h). The eco-friendly car only produces 113 grams of CO2 per kilometer, and offers a combined cycle economy of 65.7 mpg (3.6 liters per 100 km).

The VR-7 1.6 CRDi pro_cee’d is priced at just £13,220 ($20,881) while the VR-7 1.6 CRDi cee’d costs £13,420 ($20,914). As with every new Kia in the current range, a seven year warranty comes as standard.  Ordering starts today at dealers across the UK.

The Sorento also receives a new top-of-the-range ‘Sat-Nav’ trim level that comes with satellite navigation system, an uprated Hi-Fi and a color reversing camera system. The Sorento ‘KX-3 Sat-Nav’ Manual and ‘KX-3 Sat-Nav’ Automatic versions are priced at £31,155 and £32,635 respectively ($48470 and $50,773).
