Here’s one that goes straight in the face of the global downturn: Caterham hit us with a piece of positive news today, stating that “British sportscar maker, Caterham Cars, is set to further expand its international influence, after a record year of export sales in 2010.”
The company has made sure that its vehicles meet Euro 5 emission standards, in order to be able to market its range all over Europe. The carmaker’s pan-European line-up includes the Roadsport, Superlight R300, SV and CSR (vehicles use Ford Sigma and Duratec engines).
Last year, the company registered record sales, with 2010 being the fifth consecutive year of continual expansion in export markets for Caterham and the Seven. The company’s greatest export market was France, where it sold 130 vehicles. Other European countries that registered strong Caterham sales include Germany, Italy and Japan.
“Caterham is really bucking the trend at the moment – while most car builders are suffering because of the economic climate, we are going from strength to strength,” said Caterham’s International Business Development Manager, David Ridley. “We see no reason why our success in overseas markets will not continue unabated – the Seven is every bit as popular today as it always has been.”
The carmaker’s motorsport program has also been boosted, helping Caterhams’ European success.
“The French R300 Cup started in 2010 and featured grids of 40 cars racing throughout the season. Meanwhile, Caterham’s acclaimed Academy series, for novice racers, is being rolled out in France this year,” stated the press release.
