New Caterham Models Coming

Last month, Caterham made the first step into a new era, introducing the 300 hp SP/300.R exclusive track toy and now it is time to see what the company’s other future plans are. The carmaker’s boss, Ansar Ali, told autocar that the company will expand its range further, willing to move into new segments of the market.

It seems that, after focusing entirely on the Seven for 38 years, the automaker is now willing to explore new territories. However, Ali didn't offer specific details for the future developments, only mentioning that they are on the table.

The SP/300.R is a good stepping stone for us [from the Seven] and is another piece of the jigsaw,” the executive was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source. “But we have more pieces we want to develop. We see other brands moving out of other sectors and we’re onto it.

Ali sees the SP/300.R as the company’s “halo car”, a product that will also help Caterham make the Seven more popular in emerging markets. He predicts that the SP/300.R sales will be divided equally between the UK and overseas markets.

The Seven and SP/300.R are actually very coherent,” said Ali. “There are customers in India and China who want to buy into the Caterham DNA and are just getting into track days but don’t get the Seven. SP/300.R is an introduction to the brand for them and we can help better communicate the Seven to them through it.
