Canadian Car of the Year Category Winners Announced

In the early hours of the weekend, the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) announced the cars that managed to win the title of Canadian Car of the Year in their respective category.

The cars, which we list today, will be entering the final competition, that will end with the naming of the Canadian Car of the Year and the Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year at the Toronto Auto Show in February 2011. The list below has been voted on by 70 Canadian auto journalists.

According to AJAC, the winning cars which made it to the final are: Ford Fiesta (best new small car under $21,000), Chevrolet Cruze (best new small car over $21,000), Volkswagen Jetta TDI Clean Diesel (best new family car under $30,000), Buick Regal (best new family car over $30,000), BMW 5 Series Sedan (best new luxury car over $50,000), Porsche 911 Turbo S (best new prestige car over $75,000), Cadillac CTS-V Coupe (best new sports/performance car), Toyota Sienna (best new minivan), Hyundai Tucson (best new SUV/CUV under $35,000), Ford Edge (best new SUV/CUV under $50,000) and Volkswagen Touareg (best new SUV/CUV over $50,000).

As you can see, the big winner of the awards is GM, who has no less than three of its models on the list.

“We are honoured to have won 3 segment awards at this year’s AJAC TestFest competition,”
GM Canada spokesman Tony Larocca told autonet.ca.

Clearly, these vehicles are resonating with critics and customers, which tells us we are on the right track. With many more exciting new cars being introduced in coming years, this bodes very well for continued growth.”
