Canadian Car of the Year Finalists Announced

AJAC, The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada, have announced the finalists of the 2009 Canadian Car of the Year and Canadian Sports Utility Vehicle of the Year competition.

So, without further ado, here are the lucky finalists: Hyundai Genesis, Mazda 6, and Toyota Corolla for the car category and Ford Flex, Mercedes-Benz M-Class, and Subaru Forester for the SUV category.

The Canadian journalists also have two awards for design and technology. The top three finalists for 2009 Best New Design are the Honda Fit, Jaguar XF Supercharged and the Volkswagen Passat CC. The 2009 Best New Technology nominees  are the General Motors OnStar Stolen Vehicle Slowdown, the Infiniti Around View Monitor and the Mitsubishi Super-All-Wheel Control

AJAC’s annual Canadian Car of the Year awards goes back as far as 1985, when it first took place. It was meant as a tool for Canadian consumers, using filters to identify vehicles new to the market, grouped within cross-shopping sets. The results of AJAC's votes are public information and can be found at www.ajac.ca.

This rigorous evaluation process includes real world driving on public roads on a variety of routes developed to reflect where and how the average consumer would drive the different classes of vehicles.

The winners will be declared on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 during media day at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto. The winners of the Best New Design award and the Best New Technology award, presented by Shell Canada, will also be declared at that time.
