Campos Could Sign Maria de Villota for 2010

Campos Grand Prix may do just about everything to secure the necessary funds for their maiden Formula One campaign in 2010. Including the signing of a female driver. According to media reports in Italy, the team is willing to sign a female race driver in order to attract the much-needed sponsorship for the season to come.

The same reports indicated Spanish driver Maria de Villota as being the one eyed by Adrian Campos' team. The 31-year old racer doesn't come as an unknown figure for the European racing fans, as she used to drive in the FIA World Touring Car Championship, DTM and Superleague Formula.

Additionally, she has a great pedigree for racing, as she's the daughter of former F1 driver Emilio de Villota.

The reports were picked by Spanish newspaper AS, whose sources revealed that the female driver is currently on the list of racers to take the reserve/test driving role within the Spanish team next year. We're not sure how this will attract major sponsorship – if they're to sign a female driver for financial reasons, they may want to give her a racing spot – but apparently De Villota has minimal chances of even getting the reserve role.

Either way, Campos has to find a solution for the lack of sponsorship for the 2010 season, as recent reports in Germany's Auto Motor und Sport and Switzerland's Blick newspaper suggested that the International Automobile Federation (FIA) may decide to take Campos GP's 2010 entry back, if the Spanish team doesn't guarantee their budget for the new season.
