General Motors has recaptured its crown of number one carmaker in the world by volume last year, as Toyota slipped due to the hits it took both to its production capabilities and the strong Japanese yen.
But the General isn’t stopping there, as Bloomberg reports new models will help the Cadillac luxury brand double its sales in coming years. This is hoped to turn the company into a true global contender and a viable threat to the Lexus brand. A company insider says the target is for Cadillac to take the number 4 spot from the Japanese maker within the next ten years.
“We are working on more new Cadillacs than at any point in the brand’s history,” Don Butler, GM vice president for Cadillac marketing, said earlier this month in an interview in Chicago. “We’re constantly talking about what’s the best way to become this global player.”
These future products include a rival for the X3 based on the new ATS architecture, a unibody Escalade and a sedan bigger than the XTS.
