Perhaps not all of us will get to adorn their driveways with a C8 Corvette, while the number of aficionado who will get to see the engine compartment of their mid-edngine 'Vette in exposed form will obviously be even smaller (think: tuning). But anybody can enjoy a dive into the belly of the beast, all thanks to a brilliant walkaround of a 2020 Corvette cutaway.
The clip allows us to get into the mind of GM engineers and see how aspects such as packaging and heat management were covered in the transition from a front-engined to a mid-engined layout.

Aluminum, magnesium and even carbon fiber - all these materials tell you that the said engineers did their best to keep the weight in check. Note that the video doesn't just focus on the full package, as it also zooms in on the eight-speed dual-clutch of the new Chevrolet Corvette.

And we can say the same about the new 6.2-liter LT2 V8, with its pushrod setup (camshaft in the engine block) that defies the dual overhead cam technology most performance machines use nowadays.

Nevertheless, the most important aspect of this shenanigan seems to be the debate it has sparked. You see, the generous center tunnel of the Chevy has led certain aficioandos to believe the C8 will eventually get a driveshaft in there, even though the current placement of the front suspension components doesn't seem to allow this.

Of course, the rumors about the range-topping C8 mixing a twin-turbo V8 with multiple electric motors, which would thus create a gas-electric AWD setup, are still around.

It's also worth noting that, according to Chevy Dude, the YouTuber behind this clip, removing the seats and the center console reveals the car is gifted with engine access panels, which means one doesn;'t have to lower the motor out of the vehicle for maintenance - for some reason, these aren't showcased on the cutaway car. Of course, this info needs to be taken with the mandatory grain of salt.

As for those who are anxious to use a power adder and bring the C8 into the four-digit output arena, well, this is another story for another time.
