BYD Takes Over the USA with Three Green Dreams at 2011 NAIAS

Chinese manufacturer BYD will use the upcoming 2011 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) to introduce its green solutions for the United States. Nicknamed "Three Green Dreams", the BYD portfolio will thus be on display at the January show and includes green electric vehicles plus some so-called eco-friendly products such as solar panels, home energy storage units and energy-saving LED lighting.

BYD's all-electric vehicle called e6 Premier, prepared for model year 2012, plus the dual-mode electric SUV, the S6DM, will be introduced at the show. In addition, the world's first mass-produced F3DM sedan plus the pure-electric bus developed by the company will also be displayed within the Chinese company's NAIAS booth.

Separately, the e6 Premier is powered by iron-phosphate FE batteries and provides an autonomy of 300 km (186.4 miles), with a maximum speed of 140 km/h (87 mph). The recharging process takes only 40 minutes when using an 100 kW system, according to BYD.

The S6DM SUV is, as its producer claims, the world's first independent 4WD dual-mode electric SUV. It travels for as much as 60 km (38 miles) on electric power while, using the 2.0-liter gasoline engine, it goes up to 310 miles in extended range mode. A 10kW electric motor powers the front wheels while a 75 kW unit is responsible for putting the rear wheels in motion. A 6-speed dual-clutch transmission is also included in the package.

autoevolution will be attending the 2011 NAIAS, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
